Customer Reviews about Innovative Medicine: Charles Turner, MD

  • Saw dr. Turner back in 2012, he is a great MD with a lot of knowledge in the treatment in pain and addiction. He takes his time to get to know you and actually has a great personality. He is not afraid to prescribe unlike other doctors today that are very judgmental. Now with that said that was in 2012 before the so called "heroin epidemic". I don't want to go into depth about the opioid crisis. Anyways now I'm back seeing Dr. Turners "treatment team". When I scheduled an appointment to get back into the program, I never saw Dr. Turner. Instead I saw an RN. I was very disappointed in the fact that I paid 250.00 to see Dr. Turner. But, I'm assuming this new structure they have for treating addicts is protect the MD from malpractice suits. I don't want to say he is doing anything wrong with this, considering how busy his staff is. It did disappoint me enough to try and seek treatment elsewhere. His "treatment team" is a blockade between me and the MD, which is not right. They're not qualified enough to say when to stop medications. I believe with the "opioid epidemic" it's literally scaring MDs into protecting they're license. And I do not blame them, or Dr. Turner. I still believe he is a phenominal physician. It just seems very shady that I did not get to see him on my first visit and express my concerns to an actual MD. My recovery has been very hard due to the fact that I suffer from long-term chronic low-back pain. I've had one surgery that did relieve my nerve pain, but to this day I still have very severe low back pain. I've been on opioid for over 10 years and have tried it all. Buprenorphine is the only opioid that helps me function with my pain and helps with my addiction...when I get tossed back on the streets again, I hope I don't die from a heroin overdose. Because let's face it, that's what these doctors are doing, getting scared and sending addicts away....I don't want anyone to get the wrong message, Dr.Turners program SAVES PEOPLE FROM DYING. I wish you all the very best in your recovery, but if you need buprenorphine long-term to keep you straight, this program is not for you.

After being in Dr Turners suboxone program for a year, I had enough and attempted to quit. I asked for a prescription for Valium to attempt to deal with the anxiety, which was accommodated by the doctor. For about 5 days I took the prescribed Valium but got sick, scared, and unable to function, and went back to go back on suboxone, which again was accommodated. The following weeks I kept testing positive for Valium, and after the third appointment , I was treated like a liar and a criminal and kicked out of the program. I was no longer taking Valium, but it kept showing up in my urine. No clue why, I was not taking any at all. However , I asked my pharmacist at Custom Plus pharmacy in West Lafayette, and he told me that suboxone can make it hard to clear other chemicals out of the body. I was/am a working professional , and my life fell apart without my medication that I was deeply physically and mentally addicted too. I had been on suboxone for nearly 6 years at this point (my prior doctor in Kokomo was shutdown, which is why i ended up here in the first place), and the desperation , pain, and fear I felt are almost impossible to describe in words. It was the worst time I've ever had in my life, I never should have been thrown out with no medicine. It's dangerous to force a person who has been on it so long onto the street cold turkey. Especially one who literally did nothing wrong. This injustice happened to me nearly 4 years ago, and I still think about it all the time. In the year or so i was in the program I only actually saw Dr Turner the first visit. I feel if he would have intervened, or at least talked with me, this would have ended differently. Instead, I spoke with basically a social worker with no real medical training who made all the decisions. My advice is to never ever touch opiates, and if you do, go through the withdrawals of cold turkey and never touch suboxone. It is a living nightmare, just as was my experience here.
